How much does MAXadvisor Private Management cost?
We charge just .50% - .75% of assets under management per year.
We do not derive any compensation from the funds we buy for you, or from commissions or trading of any kind. We are fee-only advisors, meaning we charge the client directly for our advisory services and do not make commissions from funds or on trades. This fee is generally tax deductible. Clients are billed directly, on a quarterly basis.
No. We never purchase funds that are sold with a sales charge or commission. We invest client's portfolio primarily in no-load mutual funds. We also buy exchange traded funds (ETFs), closed-end funds, and REITs.
Generally our portfolios do not contain individual stocks. We do buy some closed-end funds and ETFs that trade on exchanges like stock.
What about my current holdings and existing accounts?
We will analyze your existing portfolio and will rebuild the portfolio in line with our investing philosophy. We are also happy to build a portfolio with assets that is separate from a client's core holdings, or a portfolio that compliments a client's current holdings.
Are there any commissions involved?
We do not collect a commission of any kind, from anyone, ever. Our fees are derived solely from a percentage of assets under management. We are fee-only financial advisors. We work for our clients, not fund companies.
What is the minimum to get started?
MAXadvisor Private Management has lower fees and lower minimums than the vast majority of professional money managers. Investors can get started with as little as $250,000 in investable assets.
If at any time you are unhappy with MAXadvisor's managed accounts service, let us know. You are under no obligation to continue using MAXadvisor for any period longer than you wish to. All accounts are guaranteed by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation, or SIPC, at the brokerage company we select to custody your money. This is NOT a guarantee against losses from stock or bond market or fund declines, but is a guarantee against bankruptcy or insolvency of the broker. Click here for more on SIPC.
What if I don't want you managing my money anymore? How do I get my money back?
You don't have to get your money back because MAXadvisor Private Management never actually has it. All we do is manage your account - but it's YOUR account. Clients never transfer money to us; they simply grant us trading authority over accounts they own. Nobody can add, withdraw, or transfer money from your account but you. If a client decides they no longer wish to use MAXadvisor, all they have to do is to tell us or their broker and our trading authority will be withdrawn immediately.
My broker doesn't charge when choosing funds for me - why should I pay you?
In all likelihood you are paying hidden fees. Most funds are sold with loads, or hidden sales commissions, that come out of your money when you invest. You generally won't notice these fees unless you look.
When you buy a typical load fund, 5.75% of your money vanishes in commissions immediately. We do not collect loads, buy load funds for our clients, or charge any hidden fees. 5.75% is more than we charge for actively managing your portfolio for over seven years.
We don't sell clients mutual funds that will make us the most money; we are in business to build portfolios for our clients that will make them the most money.
What do I get with the service?
The MAXadvisor managed accounts service is a total portfolio management solution. We gauge your risk profile, assess your goals, and determine the correct risk level portfolio to build for you. We allocate your portfolio to the best mutual funds we can find for the job and continue to monitor your portfolio and make changes as necessary. We choose the funds, make the trades, and re-allocate as necessary. MAXadvisor's registered investment advisors are always available to our clients to discuss their portfolios or to reassess their goals. We will also manage your company-sponsored retirement account assets at no extra cost.
Do you make money from the funds you choose for me?
MAXadvisor makes no compensation whatsoever from selecting mutual funds, ETFs, closed-end funds or any investments for your portfolio. We take no kick-backs from brokers, and collect no sales loads from funds you invest in under our guidance. The only person who pays us for our services is you, the client, and we remain 100% objective and committed to selecting you the best funds we can find.
Why should I let a professional manage my portfolio?
Expertise. Hiring a professional to manage your portfolio releases you from having to decide how much risk you should be taking, how to best design a portfolio to achieve that goal, and which funds are best to do the job. These are difficult decisions to make for most investors. We are investing experts, and we have a tremendous amount of experience building portfolios that work.
The founders of MAXadvisor have been working with funds for years. The founders have written hundreds of articles about funds and investing for the top-rated MAXfunds.com web site and for several other respected publications like TheStreet.com and The New York Post. We've interviewed hundreds of fund managers, collected and analyzed data on thousands of funds, and created a rating system that has consistently identified top-performing mutual funds.
Experts from MAXadvisor are quoted in publications like Barron's, The Wall Street Journal, The International Herald Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Money, Mutual Funds Magazine, and TheStreet.com (among many others). MAXfunds founder Jonas Ferris appears weekly on FOXnews' Cashin' In. MAXadvisor's Chief Investment Officer was employed on Wall Street as a registered stockbroker and has been in the mutual fund business for over a decade.
Your 401(k) account (or other employee sponsored or defined contribution plans) with your current employer can't typically be rolled into your regular brokerage account that we manage. However, we will treat your entire portfolio as one when it comes to building the right portfolio even if we have to maintain client holdings in a few different places.
How is this service different from the MAXadvisor Powerfund Portfolios?
The MAXadvisor Powerfund Portfolios is a monthly fund investing newsletter. It contains hand-picked model portfolios for different risk levels, and our favorite funds in each category. The newsletter requires subscribers to read and follow the newsletter and to set up and maintain copies of our model portfolios in their own brokerage accounts.
The MAXadvisor managed account service is a complete portfolio management service. We build actual customized portfolios in a client's brokerage account after consultation with each client. We trade and maintain those portfolios for the life of the client-advisor relationship.
Are the portfolios you build for private management clients different than those in the MAXadvisor Powerfund Portfolio?
Yes. We have more flexibility building and managing accounts for private clients. We work with each client and build a customized portfolio that takes into account each client's unique financial situation and goals. Our newsletter's model portfolios are designed to be accessible to the greatest number of investors possible, and hence each model portfolio can be purchased for a relatively small initial investment. The private account relationship allows us to invest in a bigger universe of funds, including those with higher minimums and lower fees. We also have access to funds that individuals may not through our arrangement with the brokerage platform.
